Day 1 — Love That Is Genuine

Scripture: Romans 12:9–10

“Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.”

It is easy to say that we love people. It is much harder to genuinely love people who disagree with us, frustrate us, or have hurt us.

Paul doesn’t describe love as simply being nice. Genuine love seeks the good of another person. It isn’t based on what someone can do for us or whether they deserve our kindness. It flows from what God has already done for us.

But notice that Paul connects love with truth. We are to love what is good and reject what is evil. Biblical love doesn’t mean approving everything. Real love wants what is truly good for others, and God alone defines what is good.

Our culture often tells us to love ourselves, protect ourselves, and cut off anyone who disagrees with us. Jesus calls us to something greater: love others because we have first been loved by Him.

Today, ask God to show you what genuine love looks like toward the people He has placed around you.

Reflect:

Who is difficult for you to genuinely love? What would loving that person look like today?

Prayer:

Lord, teach me to love genuinely. Help me love others not because they deserve it or because they can benefit me, but because You have loved me first. Give me courage to hold fast to what is good and reject what is evil. Amen.

Today’s Challenge:

Do one intentional act of kindness for someone without expecting anything in return.
