11 AUG 26 Devotional -- Beautiful Feet

Day 2 — Why the Good News Matters

Scripture: Romans 3:23–24

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

Good news only makes sense when we understand why we need it.

Romans reminds us that all have sinned. Sin isn’t simply making mistakes. Sin is rebellion against a holy God. It separates us from Him and leaves us unable to make ourselves righteous.

That is uncomfortable to admit.

But the purpose of recognizing our sin isn’t to leave us in shame. It is to help us understand the incredible depth of God’s grace.

Imagine standing before a judge knowing you are guilty and unable to pay the penalty. Then someone steps forward and pays your entire debt.

That is a picture of what Christ has done.

Jesus took our sin upon Himself. He bore the judgment we deserved and offers us forgiveness and new life.

The darker the diagnosis, the more amazing the cure.

The gospel becomes truly good news when we understand how desperately we need it.

Reflect

  • Do I sometimes minimize the seriousness of sin?
  • How does understanding my sin deepen my appreciation for God’s grace?
  • Is there an area of sin I need to confess to God today?

Prayer

Father, help me see my sin honestly without becoming overwhelmed by shame. Thank You that Your grace is greater than my sin. Thank You for Jesus, who paid the debt I could never pay. Amen.

Today’s Step

Confess one specific sin to God today. Receive His forgiveness and thank Him for the grace found in Christ.
