14 May 26 Devotional- Love to Obey - Growth Comes Through Obedience

Day 4 — Growth Comes Through Obedience

Scripture: James 1:22

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

We often think spiritual growth comes primarily from consuming more content—more sermons, more podcasts, more books, more studies.

Knowledge matters. But knowledge alone does not produce maturity.

Growth happens when truth is practiced.

Jesus told His disciples to teach people “to obey everything” He commanded. Christianity was never meant to be passive learning. It is active discipleship.

A three-legged stool is only stable when all the legs are healthy:

  • Knowledge
  • Obedience
  • Sharing

If one leg becomes too short, the stool becomes unstable.

Many believers know far more than they practice. We can become spiritually overfed but under-obedient.

The mature Christian is not the one who knows the most Bible trivia—it is the one who faithfully lives out what God has already said.

Even small acts of obedience shape us deeply. Forgiving someone. Serving quietly. Confessing sin. Speaking truth. Loving an enemy. Trusting God in uncertainty.

Every act of obedience strengthens our faith.

As we obey, we begin experiencing God in deeper ways. We learn His faithfulness firsthand—not just intellectually, but personally.

Reflection:

Is there something God has already asked me to do that I have delayed?

Application:

Take one practical step of obedience today, even if it feels small.

Prayer:

Lord, help me not to stop at hearing Your Word. Give me courage to live it out faithfully and consistently. Amen.
