Day 3 — The Spirit Gives Desire and Power
Scripture: Philippians 2:13
“For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”
One of the greatest truths of the Christian life is this: God does not command us to obey and then leave us alone to figure it out.
He gives us His Spirit.
Before Christ, many of us had little interest in God. We resisted His ways, ignored His truth, and followed our own desires. But when the Holy Spirit enters our lives, He begins changing us from the inside out.
He gives new desires.
Suddenly, we want to pray. We hunger for Scripture. We care about people differently. We become aware of sin and long for holiness. That transformation is evidence of God at work within us.
The Holy Spirit not only gives desire—He gives power.
Jesus promised that the Counselor would be with His followers forever. We are not abandoned in our struggle to obey. God Himself walks with us, strengthens us, convicts us, teaches us, and reminds us of truth.
This means obedience is not about striving harder in human strength. It is about surrendering more fully to the Spirit’s leading.
When we fail, we return to Him. When we feel weak, we depend on Him. When we are uncertain, we listen for His guidance.
God works in us both “to will and to act.” He shapes both our desires and our actions.

Where do I need to rely more on the Holy Spirit instead of my own strength?
Application:
Before making decisions today, pause and pray: “Holy Spirit, guide me and help me obey You.”
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, thank You for living within me. Change my desires, strengthen my weakness, and help me walk in obedience today. Amen.
