Day 1: Expect Opposition
Scripture: Matthew 10:24–25
“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.”
One of the surprises many Christians encounter is that faithfully following Jesus does not always make life easier. In fact, obedience often attracts resistance. Jesus wanted His disciples to understand this from the beginning. If the world opposed Him, it should not surprise us when it opposes those who belong to Him.
The goal of discipleship is not comfort but Christlikeness. As God shapes us into the image of His Son, we may experience rejection, misunderstanding, or criticism. These moments are not signs that God has abandoned us. Often, they are evidence that we are walking faithfully with Him.
Rather than viewing hardship as an interruption to God’s plan, we should see it as one of His tools for spiritual growth. God uses opposition to strengthen faith, deepen dependence upon Him, and refine our character.
Reflection Questions:
- Have you been surprised by opposition because of your faith?
- How might God be using a current challenge to shape you into the likeness of Christ?
Prayer:
Lord, help me not to be discouraged when difficulties come. Give me grace to follow Jesus faithfully and trust Your purposes even when obedience is costly. Amen.
