Devotional: A Heart Surrendered

In Proverbs 23:26, we hear the voice of wisdom speaking tenderly, yet directly:

“My son, give me your heart…”

This is not a demand for behavior alone, but a call for relationship—an invitation into intimacy with God. The heart, in biblical terms, is the seat of our emotions, desires, and will. To give God our heart is to surrender our whole self—our motivations, longings, fears, and dreams.

Too often, we focus on managing appearances or adjusting behavior. But God isn’t interested in shallow compliance. He wants something deeper—our love, trust, and full attention. He knows that when He has our heart, our actions will follow naturally.

The second part of the verse continues:

”…and let your eyes delight in my ways.”

This is about focus and joy. When our hearts are truly given to God, we begin to see His ways not as burdens, but as blessings. We find joy in walking the path of wisdom, truth, and righteousness—not because we must, but because we delight in Him.

Prayer:

Devotional: The Poison of Jealousy

Scripture:

“For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.”

—James 3:16 (ESV)

Jealousy often starts small—a thought, a comparison, a moment of discontent. But left unchecked, it grows like a weed in the garden of the soul. It chokes joy, distorts relationships, and distances us from God’s peace.

Biblical Reflection

In the story of Cain and Abel (Genesis 4), jealousy was the spark that led to murder. Cain’s offering was rejected, while Abel’s was accepted. Instead of seeking God’s correction and heart alignment, Cain allowed envy to fester, leading to violence. Jealousy blinded him to grace and distorted his view of both God and his brother.

In contrast, John the Baptist modeled the opposite spirit. When Jesus’ ministry began to eclipse his own, John humbly said, “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30). John understood his purpose, remained secure in his identity, and rejoiced in the success of the One he came to prepare the way for.

Heart reflection

1. Do I secretly feel joy when someone else fails or stumble when they succeed?
2. Do I compare my calling, success, or possessions with others?
3. Am I able to rejoice in others’ blessings without questioning my worth?

God has uniquely called and gifted each of us. Jealousy lies by suggesting that God is stingy or unfair. But Scripture reminds us:

“No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” (Psalm 84:11)

Jealousy fades when gratitude grows. When we focus on our blessings and seek God’s purpose for our lives, we stop measuring our worth by someone else’s journey.

Prayer

Lord, expose any jealousy hidden in my heart. Help me to rejoice with those who rejoice and trust Your goodness toward me. Teach me to walk in gratitude and faith, resting in the truth that You have a plan and purpose for my life. Amen.

Reflection:

The love you give today will echo for generations. When you forgive, serve, guide, and nurture in love, you are planting seeds that will grow long after your season of motherhood changes. You are leaving a legacy rooted in God’s love.

Prayer:

God, thank You for loving me first. Let my life—and my motherhood—be a testimony of Your unfailing love.

Action:

Think of a mother or spiritual mother who has left a legacy of love in your life. Send her a note or message of thanks.

Reflection:

Motherhood can come with fears—am I doing enough? Am I making the right decisions? God’s love drives out that fear. You don’t mother alone. His perfect love surrounds you, upholds you, and equips you.

Prayer:

Lord, replace my fears with trust in Your perfect love. Remind me that I don’t have to be perfect because You are.

Action:

Write down one fear you’ve been carrying and release it to God in prayer today. Speak His promises over it.

Jesus, thank You for showing us the depth of God’s love. Help me to reflect that same kind of love in how I serve and care for my family.

Write down one way your love has impacted your child(ren). Reflect on how your love is part of God’s bigger story of love in their lives.

Devotional Thought:

Pride blinds us. It convinces us we don’t need help, that we know best, and that we’re above correction. But Scripture warns that pride doesn’t just lead to a fall—it brings disgrace. We’ve all seen how pride can destroy relationships, ruin reputations, and close our hearts to God’s guidance. In contrast, humility opens the door to wisdom. The humble are teachable, receptive to correction, and aware of their need for God. Wisdom doesn’t shout from a platform of self-sufficiency—it grows quietly in the soil of humility.

Jesus Himself modeled perfect humility. Though He had all authority, He chose to serve, listen, and obey the Father’s will. If we want to walk in wisdom, we must first kneel in humility.

A Prayer for Mother’s Day 11 MAY 25

Gracious and Loving Father,

On this Mother’s Day, we thank You for the gift of mothers—those who have nurtured us, cared for us, and reflected Your love in countless ways. As 1 John reminds us, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God.” Today, we honor those who have lived out that love with patience, sacrifice, and grace.

Lord, we praise You because You are love. In You, we have seen perfect love made manifest through Jesus Christ. Thank You for the ways mothers mirror this selfless, abiding love—through sleepless nights, tender words, strong prayers, and faithful presence.

We pray for every mother today—those filled with joy and those carrying pain, those who have lost children and those longing to be mothers, those raising children now, and those who have raised generations. May Your perfect love cast out all fear, bring comfort, and fill them with peace.

Help us all to walk in love, not just in word but in deed. May we learn from the love we’ve received and share it freely, just as You have loved us. Let this day be a celebration of Your love working through the hearts of mothers and all who mother others.
